Let's take care of our planet
¿What is climate change?
Climate change refers to long-term changes in temperatures and weather patterns. These changes may be natural, but since the 19th century, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and gas, which produce gases that trap calories.
Causes and consequences of climate change.
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the planet. Human activity is its main origin and its effects can be devastating.
The Earth's atmosphere is made up of different gases whose function is to maintain an appropriate temperature for life. This natural phenomenon is called the greenhouse effect.
It is necessary that there is a balance in the emission of greenhouse gases to maintain its fair proportion. However, human activities have increased the production of these gases causing the so-called global warming, the main cause of climate change, and little by little it will get out of control.
Human beings are responsible for climate change and their greenhouse gas emissions that warm the planet, as we will see later.
Some future consequences may be:
° Acidification and contamination of water due to the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air.
° Devastating weather events such as hurricanes, cyclones, rains, extreme droughts or floods.
° Death, migration and extinction of different species of animals. In the case of the sea, there are many species that are witnesses to the destruction of their habitat. The presence of plastics and other pollutants in the sea, overfishing and other destructive fishing practices contribute to its disappearance.
Actions to combat climate change.
• Turn off the lights. Even if you do it for a few seconds, you save more energy than it takes to turn on the light. From now on, always turn off the lights in rooms that are not being used.
• Replace old light bulbs with LED or energy-saving light bulbs. This measure will help save the environment and save energy costs.
• Unplug electronic devices, such as televisions or computers, when you are not using them. Most of these appliances continue to consume energy even when they are turned off.
• Reduce waste. This will require using reusable bottles or cups instead of single-use containers.
• Avoid bathrooms. This measure and reducing the minutes of showering, will save a large amount of water every day.
• Reduce meat consumption. We need to initiate a shift to plant-based diets, as the production and distribution of meat has a detrimental impact on greenhouse gas emissions.
• Buy local and seasonal products. These are more environmentally friendly.
• Bring your own bag when you shop to avoid using plastic bags.
• Recycle used paper, plastic, glass, and aluminum products to keep landfills from growing.
• As far as possible, choose public transport or bicycle instead of driving and you will thus contribute to reducing emissions.
If we do not take care of the planet, in the future it will
disappear and could become a real hell for future generations. Taking care of
the planet is our obligation as humans, as beings on this planet, since planet
earth is our home.
Planet earth will be gone forever if we don't do something.
